The growing Marvel Cinematic Universe is soon to unveil its newest phase of projects in the next upcoming weeks. The last of the third phase of projects comes to the big screen in the form of "Spider-Man: Far From Home".
Jon Watts returns to direct the follow up. So, how was the film? Does it live up to the expectations? Let's talk about it.
"Spider-Man: Far From Home" follows after the events of "Avengers: Endgame" with our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man(played by Tom Holland), who goes on a school trip to many parts of the world with his friends. With wanting to live life as a teenager, Parker decides to leave the superhero scene for a short period of time. However, when Nick Fury(played by Samuel L. Jackson) calls for his help, it is up to him and a new face in the form of Mysterio(played by Jake Gyllenhaal) to stop a new threat from destroying the world.
Holland delivers his best as the title character. With dealing with the hardships of losing an ideal figure and the responsibilities of being a superhero, Holland showcases the struggles and emotions greatly and naturally.
Gyllenhaal brings out Marvel's most creative character yet. Coupled with a solid performance and the skills that the character possesses, Mysterio proves to be a force to be reckoned with.
The third act is where the film is at its best. It provides a climax that is both exciting and fun in the form of well-rounded action that works best here
Even with all its strengths, the film does have one small weakness.
There are moments where the film becomes slower than needed. There are times, particularly with one scene, that is a huge exposition dump and doesn't translate well. It becomes more of a long winded piece of dialogue than an engaging one.
The credit scenes are fine but do contribute much significance to the future of particular characters in this ongoing series.
"Spider-Man: Far From Home" is a solid superhero piece that knows what it wants to do with delivering great lead performances from Holland and Gyllenhaal even if it sometimes slows down when it doesn't need to.
"Spider-Man: Far From Home" Rating: B+
