Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Is Loud, Odd, And Stupid

The biggest surprise of 2015 came in the form of Jurassic World. Nobody predicted how much money the movie would make or how popular it became over that summer. The film brought in a massive total of $1.6 billion dollars at the box office; making it the second highest grossing film of 2015 and the fifth highest grossing film of all time. Now, 3 years later, the sequel entitled Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has now hit theaters. The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, and Daniella Pineda. Does the sequel work? Let’s talk about it.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place three years after the events of Jurassic World. The characters from the first are brought back to the island to save the dinosaurs from an exploding volcano, which leads to them on another adventure with old and new characters.

In terms of its positives, the dinosaurs were cool and interesting to watch destroy things. In certain scenes, they actually use animatronics for some of the dinosaurs and not just CGI throughout the entire film, which I really liked. Speaking of the CGI, the visuals were interesting and cool to look at. Chris Pratt did a really good job bringing this film together. He has a certain charm that always works for him and works once again here.

Other than that, this film has a lot of problems. For starters, the story isn’t anything different that we have seen before. If you have seen Jurassic World, then you have seen most of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This all leads back to the script. The script is what brings this film down and ultimately makes it not work at all. It doesn’t make lots of sense and acts more stupid than being stupid fun. There is no consistent story and no centered plot to follow. There is one random plot that is literally thrown in the movie and they don’t touch on it after it is introduced. Also, Bryce Dallas Howard was not good. She seemed like she was pushing herself too hard and didn’t work at the end. Furthermore, the film tries to be emotional and ultimately fails because of having an uncompelling script and story.

At the end of the day, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is more of a dissapointment than a failure. It had lots of potential to be something interesting; but failed to be that because of a dumb script and story created around it. This is a “turn off your brain” type of movie. If you don’t think about it too hard, you might find some enjoyment. However, once you start to think about it, you start to realize that as the film’s slogan says: “The Park Is Gone”

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Score: 6.8/10=68%

Letter Grade: D+
