Why Phil Lord & Christopher Miller Leaving Han Solo Is A Bad Idea

As of June 20th, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that Directors Phil Lord & Christopher Miller have left the Han Solo film project. The reasoning for why they are leaving is because of “creative differences”. Kathleen Kennedy has stated that a new director will be announced very soon. These are some reasons as to why firing these two directors was a bad idea.

1. The film has already been in production for 6 months

The film has already been in the shooting stages since the beginning of this year. During the shooting, they have released photos of the cast and set photos. They have already had an idea of how the production was going to be laid out. Now, under the new director, the production is going to have to go through some changes. The new director may want to do reshoots of certain scenes that they have already filmed.

2. They had an agreement on how the film will be made

Before a film goes into production, an idea must be agreed upon by the film company distributing the movie and the directors who are making the movie. In this case, Disney, Lucasfilm and the directors all had an agreement on an idea going forward. Now, 6 months into film production, they are saying they are leaving because of “creative differences”? Sounds kind of fishy.

3. This puts lots of pressure towards the new director

Since the movie has already been through a lot of filming and shooting, the new director will have to take control of overseeing the post-production while also managing the work that was done previously by the original directors. The transition of directors is also going to be hard for the film crew and cast since they have spent majority working on the project with Lord and Miller.

To sum it up, whoever takes the reigns now on Han Solo, that person has a lot of work to do managing this project. They will have to be updated on the current status of the project while also managing post production and reshoots. To be honest, Lord and Miller was a huge loss and is very unfortunate that this had to happen. They are very talented filmmakers and let’s hope they can get their hands on another big blockbuster film project to work on(I heard The Flash is available).
